Summary

The Embark Internship Program contributes to the spiritual, personal and professional development of the student. As a Zoo Small Mammals Embark Intern the student will learn and develop animal husbandry skills working around the small mammal collection at the Ararat Ridge Zoo. The student will participate in training and environmental enrichment planning and assist with ethograms and other behavior projects. This position will allow one to impact others through a service mindset centered on making an eternal difference. This position should display our Core Values of SERVE (Serve, Equip, Relate, Value, Engage) when interfacing with both internal and external customers to ensure that the message and mission of Answers in Genesis is portrayed in an effective and God-honoring fashion.

Responsibilities

• Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis
• Create a SERVE culture environment in all work done
• Approach all tasks with a second-mile mindset
• Prioritize personal integrity in all interactions and assignments
• Participate in life skills development courses provided for Embark Interns
• Participate in Learning & Development apologetics training
• Serve in the attraction operation departments to display our SERVE core value
• Animal Husbandry duties as trained and assigned
• Participate in guest interaction opportunities including the walkabout, behind-the-scenes experiences, and others as assigned.
• Assist keepers with animal training and learn the principles of operant conditioning and the development of shaping plans.
• Assist the enrichment planning and learn the principles of environmental enrichment in the zoological setting
• Complete behavioral observations as assigned
• Learn AnimalCare Software, how to complete assignments and make daily notes
• Participate in zoo drills and other zoo learning opportunities
• Complete internship project as directed by leadership
• And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications

Requirements

• Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith
• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Regularly attends a local Bible-believing church
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Education & Experience

• Must have a minimum of 45 College Credits
• Must be currently pursuing a degree
• Prefer previous animal experience
