This position is responsible for safely smoothing out, leveling, and finishing surfaces of poured concrete to specified quality and textures with the use of hand and/or power tools. This job participates in on-the-job training. Essential Job Accountabilities include pouring, spreading, tamping, leveling, shaping, smoothing and finishing concrete to meet horizontal tolerances and finish specs from hard trowel to heavy broom; operating various machinery and equipment including cement edging, troweling, and finishing equipment, bull float, broom, and trowel machines; molding expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge; patching horizontal and vertical concrete; constructing and assembling concrete forms and wooden frame structures for various concrete formations; assisting subgrade work, mixing of concrete or other aggregate mixtures; breaking up and repairing old concrete surfaces; wearing a full body harness and working at heights while tied off; working day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours); working in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions; working in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment; working collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment; squatting, crawling, and working in awkward positions/confined spaces. Preferred qualifications include previous related experience in construction industry, 1-2 years of concrete finishing experience, and experience working with concrete curb machine. Education required is High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience. Appropriate training and experience required. Workers should be able to work rapidly and accurately with hands, follow set procedures and standards, compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects, picture objects from drawings or diagrams, rate information using standards that can be measured or checked, calculate amounts of concrete required for each job, and work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. Physically, workers must be able to climb and maintain body balance, use hands and arms fully, stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods, and see well (either naturally or with correction).
