We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting team focusing on property level financials, systems management and manage development budgets. We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented individual with a demonstrated experience with a home builder, commercial developer or BTR developer. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the complexities of development, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
• Produce the annual budget and forecasts; report significant budget differences/variances to management.
• Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit.
• Work with external CPA firms to ensure federal and state income compliance.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Executive management reports & analysis.
• Submit monthly, quarterly and annual financials to investors/lenders.
• Manage the company's cash and cash management systems.
• Knowledge of CAM reconciliations.
• Oversee 3rd party property management company accounting for properties.
• Pro Forma and budgeted financials.
• Ad hoc investors specific reports and analysis.
• Management fee and acquisition fee calculations and letters.
• Funding and investment contribution/distribution notices.
• Investment/consulting reporting.
• Ensure process and procedures are adequate to meet quality standards and are consistently applied and regularly reviewed within department.
• Responsible for direction and training of accounting team.
• Review and approve all transactions (money movement) in accordance with established guidelines.
• Assess operational effectiveness and make suggestions to streamline functions.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will be a smart, collaborative, master of Yardi and Excel with some background in multi-family or Build-to-Rent development or residential home builder. This successful candidate will, by nature, take a granular, hands-on approach to their responsibilities. Specific to this the successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
• MBA, CPA preferred but not required
• 5-10 years previous related experience in home building or development
• Good working knowledge of Excel, QuickBooks, and Brix
• Financial reporting experience required
• Strong work ethic, self-motivated, proactive with a meticulous attention to detail and superior analytical acumen
• Efficient with very strong organizational skills and a proven track record of multi-tasking across projects
• Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
• Exceptional written and oral presentation and communication skills
• Seeks challenges and self-development; demonstrates high levels of expertise and shows commitment, self-confidence and integrity.
