Emergency Department (ED) is a level I trauma center serving the Boston metropolitan area. Each year nearly 55,000 patients are treated in the Emergency Department. Our state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet the needs of a high-volume, acutely injured or ill patient population. Job Description: Job Summary: Performs multiple clinical responsibilities in coordination with a team of healthcare providers to expedite the flow of patients through the department and provide the best experience and care for patients. Essential Responsibilities: Prioritizes and completes responsibilities delegated by nurses and physicians. Maintains a calm and professional demeanor while working in a fast-paced, highly demanding environment. (essential) Performs duties including EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, crutch walking, and assisting patients with activities of daily living. Supports providers in care delivery and assists patients with physical and psychological limitations. Performs phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-service lab testing according to protocols and quality standards. Communicates results and documents in the medical record. Transports stable cardiac telemetry patients to inpatient units under ED nurse supervision. Transfers patients from room monitor to travel monitor, attaches oxygen, and prepares equipment for transport. Maintains supply inventory, stocks supplies, linens, or office goods, and ensures equipment is cleaned and ready for use. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred in EMT or Paramedic. Certificate 1: Basic Life Support; Certificate 2: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred). 1-3 years of related work experience required. Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Preferred Qualifications: EMT, Paramedic, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant training. Emergency Department experience. Nursing student with clinical rotation or other patient care experience. One or more years of college education in a related medical field. Competencies: Written and oral communication skills for complex information exchange. Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies. Ability to lead small projects and foster teamwork. High level of customer service and ability to remain calm under stress. Age-based Competencies: Capable of providing care to all age groups from neonatal to elderly. Physical Nature of the Job: Very Heavy work; physically active, exerting over 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds continually.
