Executive Director for National Non-Profit

Organization: National Nonprofit Organization (Confidential Search)

Location: Irvine, California (ONSITE – daily; no relocation offered)

Salary Range: $160,000 – $180,000

They are not seeking a traditional nonprofit leader. This role doesn’t require prior nonprofit experience—instead, they are  looking for a proven business leader with P&L ownership, digital transformation expertise, and the ability to design scalable revenue models while leading with agility.

With a proven legacy of service and impact, the organization is now poised for its next era of growth and sustainability. The Executive Director will be a transformational leader who combines business acumen, philanthropy or volunteerism, and digital savvy to expand reach and strengthen long-term durability.

About the Organization

This national nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing education, support, and hope to families seeking trusted guidance, resources, and community connection. With a strong community of families, volunteers, and experts, the organization delivers trusted resources, practical tools, and connection to empower families at every stage of their journey.

The organization is entering an exciting new chapter, advancing a digital-first, membership-driven model designed to increase reach, deepen engagement, and strengthen long-term sustainability. Its strategy focuses on three pillars:

  • Building organizational durability
  • Expanding reach and accessibility
  • Increasing earned revenue through digital membership and programs

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) will lead the organization into its next phase of growth—strengthening its mission, expanding its digital capabilities, and ensuring long-term organizational impact. Reporting directly to the Chairman of the Board, the Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, responsible for overall strategy, operations, partnerships, fundraising, and culture.

This is a fully onsite leadership role. The Executive Director must live within commuting distance of Irvine, CA, and be present at the office daily. Relocation is not offered for this position.

The ED will guide a national team of approximately 20 professionals and hundreds of volunteers, fostering innovation, accountability, and inclusion. The ideal candidate is both a visionary and a builder—someone who can inspire others, drive strategic transformation, and operationalize a modern, data-informed nonprofit model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Lead the implementation of the organization’s strategy to strengthen durability, expand reach, and grow earned revenue through a membership-based model.
  • Champion a digital-first transformation, integrating virtual programs, digital content, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure accountability for legal, compliance, HR, and risk management across all aspects of the organization.
  • Fundraising and External Relations
  • Serve as the organization’s chief ambassador, strengthening relationships with donors, partners, and families nationwide.
  • Expand philanthropic and earned income by cultivating relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Represent the organization in media, events, and key external forums, serving as a credible and inspiring voice for the mission.
  • Program and Impact Oversight
  • Ensure all programs—including education, family support, and community events—deliver measurable impact and align with family needs.
  • Partner with the Program Director and Digital Program Manager to expand digital learning, engagement, and resource access.
  • Leverage data and analytics to measure outcomes, strengthen grants, and guide continuous improvement.
  • Integrate digital tools and AI-powered innovations to enhance scalability, personalization, and access.
  • Board Relations and Governance
  • Partner with the Chairman and Board of Directors to ensure clarity of strategic priorities, performance metrics, and organizational health.
  • Provide transparent reporting on performance, impact, and financials.
  • Collaborate with the Board to recruit and onboard new members who bring diverse expertise and perspectives.

Key Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of progressive nonprofit leadership experience, including executive-level management of teams, strategy, and operations.
  • Proven success leading organizational growth, change management, or digital transformation.
  • Strong track record in fundraising, partnerships, and financial stewardship.
  • Understanding of the family support community or related human services fields preferred which could come from a personal history of philanthropy or mission-focused volunteer engagement
  • Skilled communicator who inspires trust and builds relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage hybrid and distributed teams effectively.
  • Must reside within commuting distance of Irvine, CA (no relocation support).

Leadership Competencies

  • Strategic and systems thinker
  • Empathetic and mission-driven
  • Results-oriented and data-informed
  • Digitally fluent and innovative
