The position of Farm Assistant at Ojo Farm is a meaningful, rewarding, hands-on, roll up your sleeves, manual labor-intensive job where we are grateful for the opportunity to steward this sacred land, work outside in a beautiful river valley, and work hard with our bodies to produce good food for hungry people.

- Assists in the growth, harvesting and packing of leafy vegetables and herbs.
- Inspects produce, and prepares produce, for bagging, and proper cleaning & sanitation methods.
- Assist with transplanting, and harvesting.
- Inspect and weigh produce; discard leaves as necessary; ensure no bugs, damaged leaves, tip burned leaves or leaved dropped on floor enter package.
- Monitors crop for pests or pathogens and reports to Farm Manager.
- Perform farm tasks safely and effectively.
- Assist with the fertilizing, planting, spraying, cultivating and harvesting of crops.
- Assist with maintaining and monitoring the quality of crop yields.
- Assist with diagnosing any crop problems (disease, insect, weeds, or soil problems)
- Assist with maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.

Requirements
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Reliable and highly motivated with a creative flair and lively personality
- Passionate commitment to the company vision
- Appreciation to principles of sustainable agriculture and food
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for a full 8 hour shift.
- Must be comfortable working in summer heat conditions.
- Must be able to work at a steady pace and must be detailed oriented.
- Prior experience in the natural and organic food industry a plus but not required.
- Previous farming background/experience, a MUST.
- Experience working with row crops a plus.
- Good communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to walk or stand for eight or more hours per day, sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and lift items weighing 40-50 pounds.
