Overview HR Specialist role at Valero. Valero is a leading producer of fuels and products, employing about 10,000 people. This position supports day-to-day HR activities across recruiting, payroll, benefits, employee relations, performance, and development as assigned by management. Responsibilities Serve as initial point of contact for employee relations matters including training, employment, labor relations, payroll, compensation and benefits. Provide guidance to management and employees on complex HR-related concerns; coordinate with other departments and refer complex issues to higher levels as needed. Participate in employee investigations and assist with recommendations on resolutions. Initiate and complete processing of employment actions (employment, terminations, transfers, promotions). Research and forward employee information to Compensation for salary recommendations as needed. Fulfill hiring needs and lead recruitment initiatives and programs; establish and implement college recruitment activities at designated universities. Extend and negotiate offers of employment; coordinate onboarding of new hires. Assist with the termination process to ensure legal obligations are met. Coordinate administration of employee benefits with external providers; answer participant questions and resolve routine benefit issues. Prepare and communicate information to participants regarding benefit programs, procedures, and changes; ensure compliance. Coordinate payroll administration with external provider; review payroll for compliance with government regulations. Ensure compliance with labor regulations; assist with special projects and department functions; assist lower level HR/support staff as needed. Design and run monthly HR reports as needed. Qualifications Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required. High School Diploma or GED 5+ years of professional-level Human Resources experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s or higher degree in Human Resources, Business, or related area Experience with SAP Benefits Competitive Pay and Annual Bonus Program 401(k) with 100% match up to 7% and immediate vesting Company-sponsored Pension Plan Comprehensive Healthcare and Wellness Program Benefits described above are highlights only, subject to eligibility and work location.
