Instructional Designer Salary: $67,725 - $73,751 annually* Classification: Administrative/Exempt Reports to: Lead Instructional Designer Olympic College is recruiting for Instructional Designers. This role consults and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators on quality course design, development, and delivery, including evidence-based, learner-centered approaches to course design and instruction, adherence to accessibility and copyright laws, and support in meeting college, state, and national standards for quality teaching. Essential Functions
  • Advocate for student-centered, accessible, inclusive, and standards-based course and program design in collaboration with faculty, academic administrators, and other stakeholders; offer creative and innovative ideas for teaching, learning, and assessment to support student success.
  • Consult and collaborate with faculty and academic administrators on quality course and program design, development and delivery (instructional practices). no matter the modality.
  • Encourage skillful, student-centered use of the learning management system and instructional technologies; advise on integration of a wide range of instructional technologies into course design and delivery to support student learning.
  • Share expertise with faculty and staff in the development of instructional materials in a variety of formats (text, image, audio, video, etc.); assist in ensuring materials for accessibility are compliant with state and federal laws and alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Actively contribute to the instructional accessibility efforts as lead on course development projects; coordinate faculty, staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth handoffs that support accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning experiences for all students.
  • Assess organizational, faculty, staff, and student needs and develop materials, resources, and learning activities to meet those needs.
  • Collaborates with Learning Innovation Faculty to support professional development for faculty; designs, develops, and delivers trainings, workshops, and other learning opportunities for faculty.
  • Proactively monitor faculty instructional design requests and address or escalate as needed using the appropriate channel.
  • Collaborate with the LMS help desk team to address or escalate technical support requests for students, faculty, and staff through appropriate channels.
  • Collaborate with units across the college, including access services, IT, library, advising, communications/marketing, and academic divisions to support student success in areas relating to instructional design, course development, and accessibility.
  • Document and communicate project plans and ongoing status to supervisor and key stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in instructional design and technologies; evaluate developments with an eye toward closing equity gaps and ensuring student success.
  • Stay current on accessibility and copyright laws affecting instructional design; collaborate with library staff to prevent infringements and advise stakeholders as needed.
  • Contribute to the operational planning of the Center for Learning Innovation including the development of new services, support for initiatives and events, and engagement in program assessment.
  • Collaborates with the Lead Instructional Designer, divisions, and committees to support instructional assessment efforts across the institution.
  • Participate in college councils, committees, and workgroups as needed.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two years of teaching or training experience
  • Evidence of instructional design expertise based on a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid, hyflex, and fully online (synchronous and asynchronous).
  • Knowledge and application of UDL, WCAG, and ADA standards
  • Instructional proficiency with a major education Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Experience in applying sound educational tools and methods, such as Quality Matters, Transparency in Teaching and Learning (TiLT), and Open Educational Pedagogy.
  • Experience working with faculty in a collaborative/consulting capacity supporting their course development process using learning theories, college-supported technology tools, and quality standards in alignment with their course objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education teaching experience, community college preferred
  • Quality Matters or other industry-recognized quality assurance training
  • Experience using Canvas LMS
  • Experience designing instructional materials using software such as DesignPlus, Articulate 360 or similar
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS

The salary for this position is $67,725 - $73,751 annually, which includes a generous benefits package that includes the following.
