Job Description

Description:

GMB is currently seeking a Landscape Architect in Michigan to fill a role on our project teams. In this role you will work closely with other Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering team members in a large, professional architectural and engineering firm. As part of our project teams, you will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers, and other designers in support of our clients.

Why Work with Us?

This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

Our purpose is helping build strong communities through educational opportunity. We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our team of educational planners, architects, and engineers get to work on a wide range of project types for a diverse set of clients, and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students throughout the Midwest. Will you join us?

As a Landscape Architect at GMB you will:

  • Lead site design and preparation of illustrative concepts, design development solutions and detailed construction documents.
  • Participate with multiple teams on a variety of project types and scales.
  • Pursue growth in GMB's core markets, your technical knowledge, design capabilities, leadership skills and successful client interaction.

LA Team Statement: We are committed to designing environments that enhance the human experience. We recognize the importance of play and learning in shaping the future of our communities. Our designs prioritize experiences that help people understand the natural world and their place in it. We also understand the importance of collaboration and its role in our project work. We actively engage with a variety of disciplines, stakeholders and community members to develop innovative and effective solutions. Our team is dedicated to designing spaces that promote play, learning, stewardship and collaboration and believe that by designing diverse environments that support these values, we can create a better future for the communities and students we engage with!

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone with wide-ranging experience who uses professional concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Landscape Architecture or related field from an accredited program
  • 7+ years' experience at an Architectural, Landscape Architectural, or Civil Engineering firm
  • Professionally licensed preferred, or currently pursuing licensure
  • Must be willing and able to travel to client meetings and available for some in-person collaboration
  • Ability to participate in the creation of project specifications and ensure their alignment with the drawings
  • Can offer support to colleagues in field observation services to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and prepare follow-up reports
  • Strong skills in communication and ability to lead and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent time management skills and a thorough understanding of task assignment, scheduling, budgeting and the efficient use of resources
  • Proficiency in relevant design/drafting software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

What might set you apart from other candidates?

  • Strong skills in graphics and design
  • Proficiency in Lumin and other 3D rendering software
  • A proven team player that enjoys a collaborative work environment
  • Motivated by building relationships with both fellow employees and future clients
  • An understanding of both design and constructability
  • Demonstrated ability to balance short-term deadlines against long-term goals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Horticultural knowledge

We might be a great match for each other if you are:

  • A self-starter with great time management skills who thrives in an environment with team-based decision making.
  • An individual who strives to learn and grow, is motivated by their team's success and works hard to ensure it.
  • Someone who enjoys trying new ideas and constantly improving.

What you might also like to know is that:

We're an employee-owned company. This means that 100% of the ownership at GMB is held by us as employees. Our creativity, skills, and expertise have a direct impact on our value and growth. Your role as a teammate will have a direct impact on the company's actions and result in a share in its profits.

GMB doesn't operate within a hierarchical pyramid structure; instead, we operate as a network of teams that come together around specific goals to achieve our overarching purpose. We think this is a better way to work and helps everyone reach their potential.

Finally, at GMB we embrace a flexible workplace that empowers each person to decide where and how they work best. Our inclusive, people-first culture encourages teams to collaborate, communicate and find fulfillment personally and professionally, regardless of location or schedule.

This is a direct hire, full time position. Salary will be commensurate with experience, including an excellent benefit package. Must have current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin.
