Job Description

Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Learning Experience Designer to join the User Experience & Design Strategy (UXDS) team in Student and Academic Services.

This one-year, fixed-term, hybrid (part on-campus and part remote) position will join the UXDS team supporting senior learning experience designers in their vision to deliver a consistent, user-centered design strategy for learning materials and experiences of SAS systems, processes, policies, procedures, and enhancements.

This role will enhance the team’s vision to deliver high-quality, cohesive learning solutions to student services staff, faculty, and students who utilize SAS’s broad digital portfolio of systems, applications, websites, and services. The ideal candidate will be systems-oriented, technology savvy, user-centric, and comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously and various subjects and with diverse colleagues.

In this role, you will:

  • Support assessing target audience learning and business needs and tailoring solutions for varied use cases and needs.
  • Consult with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content.
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Learning Experience Designers to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate learning solutions, including course content, instructor and participant materials, and resources for staff and faculty who support student and academic services across Stanford and across a blend of learning modalities.
  • Manage and maintain intranet learning resources.
  • Support the development of learning, change management, and communication plans to ensure the appropriateness, effectiveness, and success of learning programs.
  • Draft storyboards and prototypes.
  • Support the design and implementation of a holistic onboarding program.
  • Design inclusive and accessible learning and performance support solutions.
  • May participate in extensive user acceptance testing and quality measurement for newly created courses and web materials.
  • Support the development and delivery of Train-the-Trainer programs.
  • Share best practices through cross-campus collaboration and the instructional design community.
  • Identify strategy for production, post-production, and delivery of resources, tools and equipment necessary for developing learning materials.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and learning curricula.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all members of a learning team, vendor partners, and business partners to create a learning environment that is service-oriented, supportive, engaging, and effective for adult and nontraditional learners.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in industry-standard authoring tools, digital media, graphics design, audio, animation, and video production tools to create impactful and engaging learning materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning retention rates.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals at any and all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Education, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including an ability to support a wide variety of activities, define pitfalls, propose and implement effective solutions, and pivot between competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop learning materials focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including experience designing and implementing learning solutions that promote DEI best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify challenges in creating learning designs and implement creative solutions to overcome them.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops or training sessions and effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • High level of energy, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with Articulate 360, including Storyline and Rise.
  • Experience with video editing software.
  • Experience with Collaborative Tools, such as Slack, Trello, MS Google Suite, and Figma/Miro.
  • Background in higher education.
  • Basic UX/UI design skills.

The expected pay range for this position is $90,006 to $99,900 per annum.
