As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer. As a Manufacturing Engineer at 1X, you’ll play a vital role in bridging early product design with factory execution. You’ll work closely with Manufacturing Design Engineers to influence DFM decisions and develop the jigs, fixtures, and custom equipment necessary for assembly. As products move from development to ramp, you will collaborate with Manufacturing Design Engineers (MDEs), Manufacturing Process Engineers (MPEs), Process Execution Engineers (MPEXs), and Automation Engineers to ensure robust, high-yield manufacturing solutions at scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate early in the product lifecycle with Manufacturing Design Engineers to review designs for manufacturability, tooling needs, and process feasibility. Design, develop, and validate assembly fixtures, jigs, and custom manufacturing equipment to support safe, repeatable, and high-yield operations. Define and implement assembly methods , ergonomics, and workstation layouts for new product introductions (NPI). Partner with Manufacturing Process Engineers and Execution Engineers to transition processes from development to production, ensuring readiness for pilot builds and ramp. Work with Manufacturing Automation Engineers to scale manual processes into high-volume automated or semi-automated stations. Own equipment specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning , ensuring reliability, maintainability, and safety. Support process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) , capability studies, and engineering change implementation. Troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing processes to improve cycle time, quality, and uptime. Assist in the creation of work instructions (WIs) , control plans, and operator training documentation. Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects to eliminate production bottlenecks. Monitor and analyze process data to drive improvements in OEE, yield, and throughput . Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or equipment engineering role. Proven experience designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling for complex mechanical assemblies. Strong working knowledge of DFM principles , process flow design, and workstation ergonomics. Experience launching production lines and supporting NPI ramp to mass production. Familiar with CAD software (SolidWorks, or similar), and GD&T practices. Knowledge of equipment validation, root cause analysis, and process improvement methodologies. Nice to have Experience in high-mix or high-volume electromechanical assembly environments . Exposure to automation design and collaboration with controls/automation engineering teams. Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and integration of sensors, actuators, or robotic arms. Understanding of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or formal CI frameworks. Hands-on prototyping and mechanical build/debug experience.
