Job Description

The position of Principal Community Planner of the Office for Missing and Murdered Black Women & Girls, exists within the Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (DPS – OJP). The position will facilitate in the planning and implementation of strategic priorities and goals to end the epidemic of missing and murdered Black women and girls; and build and coordinate data reporting structures and strategies. This work will be accomplished in collaboration with Black Communities; federal, state, and local law enforcement; federal and state agencies; and community-based organizations and advocates. Implementation of recommendations by task forces, advisory groups, research, case analysis, program evaluation, review of state policies and practices, and other inputs identified by the Missing and Murdered African American Women (MMAAW) Task Force report, recommendations, and mandates; and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three* (3) years of experience in public policy and advocacy, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work/human services, victim services, and/or project management.
  • Experience working in victim services and advocacy, cultural competency, and trauma informed approaches.
  • Experience managing, analyzing, and interpreting data to support decision-making and procedural improvements.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, Tableau, GIS, or other relevant platforms)
  • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, gathering, and organizing data, and utilizing findings to support policy and planning initiatives.
  • Experience writing reports, policy briefs or similar documents that convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Candidates that meet the above will be further evaluated on:

 

  • Demonstrated experience working within multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present data-driven insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to think critically and solve complex planning or policy issues, with applied experience in problem-solving or strategy development.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic plans, with measurable outcomes that align with organizational or community goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and applying public policies, regulatory documents, or related materials to strategic plans or projects

*Bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice, social work, public policy, public health or related field may substitute for one year of required experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years in developing and executing strategic plans, with measurable outcomes that align with organizational or community goals.
  • One or more years Project management or coordination experience
  • Leadership and strategic planning experience
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and human centered methodologies.
  • Experience with community engagement 

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
