Overview The Law Office of Shantell S. Nashatka is a family law firm located in the Hampton Roads Area. Role Description Paralegals assist the attorneys with running the client’s cases. They are expected to have working knowledge of the issues in their assigned cases. They are required to have the ability to work independently, requiring minimal instruction from the attorney, and to be self-guided when completing tasks. They must establish a relationship with the client to be available to the client when the attorney is unable. Duties and Responsibilities Arranging mediation or expert psychological evaluations Contributing to trial preparation in litigation practices Providing behind-the-scenes support in the courtroom at hearings and trials, or in arbitration, mediation, administrative proceedings Drafting legal documents and pleadings, including deposition notices, subpoenas, motions, certifications, contracts, briefs, and complaints Investigating the facts of a case by interviewing clients and witnesses and performing legal research into case law and precedents Handing discovery - the exchange of certain information between opposing parties to a lawsuit Organizing and managing files, documents, and exhibits to the extent a paralegal assistant is unable to do so Filing documents with federal and state courts Having a working understanding of the law and how it applies to cases; however, a paralegal is not permitted to give legal advice Understanding and adhering to case related deadlines prescribed by the Rules of Court Understanding the separate procedures of each court Having the ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communications skills Analytical skills 2-5 years of work experience as a paralegal Seniority level Entry level Employment type Full-time Job function Legal Industries Law Practice #J-18808-Ljbffr The Law Office of Shantell S.
