The LeRoy Police Department is accepting applications for the position full time police officer. Applicants must possess high school diploma or GED and be over 21 years old. The testing process consists of a mandatory orientation, a physical fitness test (Illinois P.O.W.E.R. test) and written exam (POST). Applicants should dress appropriately on test day to participate in the physical fitness test. The orientation and testing are continuous and are scheduled with individual applicants.
Applicants with Illinois Police Officer certification are encouraged to apply and will receive a waiver on the Power test and two bonus points on the written examination score. Two bonus points on the written exam are also awarded for prior military service with an honorable discharge. The union contract provides a lateral pay scale.
The starting annual salary range is $60,675 to $63,217.20 for non-certified . Lateral transfers start at a higher rate (please inquire). There is a generous benefit package including family health, dental, and vision plans at a nominal cost to the employee, paid vacation, paid holidays, personal time, sick time, IMRF retirement plan, annual uniform allowance, and membership at the local rec center. A lateral transfer pay scale is included in the collective bargaining contract through the local ICOPS union. There is a 45-mile radius residency requirement for police officers, which must be complied with within 180 days. The full police contract is available upon request to jwilliamson@leroyil.gov.
Applicants considered for employment will be required to pass a drug screen, medical physical, psychiatric evaluation, credit check, polygraph evaluation, panel interview, and an extensive background investigation.
Applicants who are hired must sign a three-year commitment contract prior to being hired. Applicants not willing to commit to three years with LeRoy PD need not apply.
