Job Description

As the primary prospect researcher for the Trust Executive and Strategic Giving teams, the Sr. Prospect Research Analyst, Transformational Giving will provide information regarding donors capable of Transformational ($10M+) commitments. This role will identify and analyze complex and opaque wealth, investigate internationally based prospects, and identify relationship networks to prepare frontline staff with the information they need to solicit transformative level gifts for Boston Children’s Hospital. Will also serve as a key partner to Gift Officers and Trust executives in the development of long-term engagement strategies.



This Sr. Prospect Research Analyst, Transformational Giving will:

  1. Research high-level individuals, corporations and foundations identified as having capacity to make philanthropic commitments of $10M or more.
  2. Prepare detailed research briefings, analyzing net worth, estimating gift capacity, and suggesting prospect strategy.
  3. Contribute facts and written sections to prospect strategy briefings; participate in prospect strategy meetings and portfolio reviews. Review prospect management reports and dashboards.
  4. Monitor news and events of Transformational prospects and provide relevant notifications to staff.
  5. Identify and qualify new prospects in support of fundraising initiatives; Prepare and present prospect lists, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  6. Uphold Prospect Development database entry and enrichment practices and related recordkeeping for Transformational prospects to ensure accuracy and functionality of reporting and dashboarding tools.
  7. Respond to specific research questions, independently resolving problems, and meeting deadlines.
  8. Remain current in research product development and upgrades, and for changes in research internet sites, consulting on a wide array of electronic research tools.
  9. Remain actively involved in professional research societies, staying current with new research methods and standards, and maintaining on-going professional relations and contacts.
  10. Understand and adhere to the highest standards of research ethics and confidentiality, including HIPAA regulations.

To qualify, you must have:

  1. BA degree and at least 5 years’ experience in the field of Prospect Development in the non-profit sector.
  2. Mastery of the technical aspects of search, including biographical and financial/business reference resources, informational databases, web-based research services and research internet sites.
  3. Familiarity with the billionaire and ultra-high net worth philanthropy communities.
  4. Knowledge and experience with advanced prospect research tools and skills.
  5. Ability to organize and analyze complex material and work with sensitive and confidential information.
  6. Ability to produce concise, clearly written and well-synthesized research derived from factual information from reliable, vetted primary and secondary sources.
  7. Must be able to understand financial information and employ industry methodologies and "rules of thumb" to support estimates of wealth and philanthropic capacity of research subjects.
  8. Exposure to philanthropy for medical research, children’s health or hospitals.
  9. Understanding of reputational risk and due diligence research methodologies and practice.
  10. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines for research requests.
  11. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) for creating profiles and spreadsheets.
