Flyspace Productions is a full service, woman owned event management and production company headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA. We are responsible for producing more than a dozen annual festivals, many private and corporate events and parties, and hundreds of AV supported events. Our team is expanding and we are seeking a Stage & Rigging Operations Manager to join our ranks. This person will report to the Director of Production and will be responsible for properly supporting shows and projects with appropriate equipment, planning and communicating on-site implementation, managing inventory in collaboration with the warehouse team, and ensuring that our technicians continue to be trained and kept updated on industry trends. This role is a full-time, exempt position with an anticipated salary range of $50,000-$60,000, but may be adjusted commensurate with experience or skillset.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility for the technical planning of shows that utilize staging, rigging, or mobile stages and ensure that shows are properly planned with appropriate gear and staff, including attending meetings and site visits as necessary, advancing as needed, and coordinating with planners and operations.
  • Providing on-site oversight of technically complex shows when necessary to ensure they are properly executed as planned
  • Create necessary show paperwork and communications to effectively share information and plans with team members through the planning process and on-site
  • Resolve any gear availability conflicts in the most cost efficient manner possible and maintain positive relationships with partners, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Maintain an accurate inventory in our rental inventory software, Flex, including available equipment, pricing, and costs.
  • Manage and coordinate the use of inventory and oversee the repairs, maintenance, and upgrading of gear
  • Ensure technicians are adequately trained (including on specific gear, industry standards, and company policy/procedure) and kept informed on new industry developments.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse and communicate with project managers and account reps to support shows
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and cultivate new business whenever possible
  • Provide support and insight into the development and implementation of new process and procedure and ensure that you and your direct reports are trained and follow the structures that are established
  • Ensure proper safety measures are documented, trained, and followed
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in theater, events, concerts, or other production background and the ability to communicate effectively about the intricacies of event av production and the unique workflow involved
  • 2+ years of experience leading stagehand crews
  • 2+ years of experience in an leadership role
  • Familiarity with the operation of Stageline Mobile Stages (certifications preferred)
  • Verifiable training or classes in overhead rigging (ETCP certified highly desired)
  • Ability to produce show paperwork including use of Vectorworks, Google Suite, Flex Rental Solutions, and others, or the desire and ability to learn these systems
  • Experience with loading and driving large vehicles, towing, and operating heavy equipment such as aerial lifts, front loaders, forklifts, etc and the ability to understand when each kind of equipment is required and how to train operators on site
  • Ability to proactively communicate with senior stakeholders and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to multitask and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish rapport with crew members primarily using digital communication
  • Understanding of the creative process and the ability to work closely with colleagues diplomatically and professionally
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends and holidays and long hours on site from time to time
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US for this employer
