Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
The Project Assistant/Prospect Researcher in the Office of Government, Foundation and Corporate Relations provides key support for the college's grant seeking.
Transferable Skills: •Experience gained in the office could help position a student for a starting position after graduation related to grant seeking in the nonprofit, arts, education, healthcare, human services, or government sectors.
•Online grant research, using various grant-search databases and web sites.
•Maintaining digital files and internal databases.
•Fact-checking for GFCR staff.
•Writing summaries about various funders appropriate for college needs.
•Website maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Conduct prospect research for funders that support faculty and institutional research or curricular projects on a case-by-case basis.
•Assist GFCR staff in identifying foundation, government and corporate sources of support that align with St. Olaf's mission and programs.
•Gain proficiency in using commercial software (Foundation Directory Online, Sponsored Programs Information Network) to locate grant opportunities.
•Assist GFCR staff with logistics planning for faculty and staff outreach/publicity events.
•Assist GFCR staff to plan and prepare for campus meetings, funder visits, and other events that support grant seeking at St. Olaf.
•Assist students interested in grants research for class projects. Help them use GFCR's software/databases to locate opportunities.
•Help maintain digital files for proposals submitted and awards made to St. Olaf.
•Update GFCR's website.
When the Project Assistant/Prospect Researcher demonstrates competence with simple, but important tasks, more advanced assignments like the following could be made:
•Compiling reports on prospective funders, including a review of their funding priorities, leadership, and giving patterns.
•Proofreading and fact checking documents included in St. Olaf proposals going out to foundations/funders.
•Drafting short profiles about recently won awards for the GFCR web page.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills) •Interest in (and patience with) performing online research to both locate specific funding opportunities for faculty and institutional projects, and to collect information from foundation websites.
•Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with the ability to summarize information.
•Accuracy and attention to detail as it applies to reading and writing and checking figures.
•Proficiency with Google and Microsoft products.
•Willingness to learn Wordpress and other software.
•Interest in maintaining web pages.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality.
•Able to work independently and in a quiet environment.
