Job Description

Job Overview:
A Boston-based law firm is actively seeking an experienced attorney with a deep understanding of federal and state taxation issues. The ideal candidate will handle complex tax controversy matters, offer strategic tax guidance for a range of transactions, and advise on compliance related to international reporting obligations. The position combines litigation, advisory, and regulatory work and offers flexibility for partial remote arrangements.

Duties:

Represent individuals, estates, and businesses in federal and state tax controversy matters

Advocate before tax authorities, including the IRS and state tax agencies

Advise clients on transactional tax planning, including corporate, real estate, and securities transactions

Assist in the resolution of penalties and disputes involving foreign transactions and offshore reporting

Counsel clients regarding cryptocurrency-related tax compliance

Prepare and review documentation related to foreign bank account disclosures and international tax filings

Draft legal memoranda and correspondence related to tax compliance and enforcement matters

Collaborate with firm leadership on complex, high-stakes tax disputes

Requirements:

Substantial experience in federal and state tax procedure and litigation

Demonstrated background in complex transactional tax planning

Familiarity with foreign asset reporting and enforcement matters (e.g., FBAR, FATCA)

Prior experience advising on cryptocurrency taxation issues

Proven ability to engage effectively with government agencies and regulatory bodies

Clear and persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

Active license to practice law and current MA Bar membership in good standing

Skills:

Strategic thinking and sound legal judgment in high-pressure situations

Strong client management and interpersonal communication skills

Deep analytical skills with the ability to identify legal and procedural risks

Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines concurrently

Detail-oriented approach to tax law compliance and documentation
