BREAKDOWN

Kennedy Center 2025-26 TYA Season Kennedy Center Family Theater Productions - Tier I Production #1: Title TBD Based on the book by Marlee Matlin & Doug Cooney Script and Lyrics: Doug Cooney Music by Deborah Wicks La Puma DATES: November/December 2025 SYNOPSIS: Fourth grade is not easy and after spending a year planning her “positively purple” birthday party, Megan finds herself at odds with a new student, Alexis. When they’re forced to collaborate on a science project, Megan discovers Alexis’s secret. This touching new musical—simultaneously performed in American Sign Language and spoken English—is a poignant reminder that despite first impressions, nobody’s perfect. Production #2 - Title TBD By Doug Robinson DATES: February/March 2026 SYNOPSIS: This production follows the journey of 9-year-old Scooter; a boy with an imagination larger than the sky. At the beginning of summer vacation, Scooter’s Dad gives him a fantasy series that follows a band of characters as they explore a collection of magical islands in a mythic sea, searching for the Tower at the edge of the world. Scooter devours the first book, then the second, then the third, and then the fourth, but when he asks his dad for the fifth and final book, he learns: there is no fifth book. The writer Poppy Carousel never finished the series and hasn’t published in 30 years. So he sets out to find Poppy Carousel, taking two buses and a ferry till he reaches her doorstep. But instead of being greeted by the smiling face of a beloved author, he finds a frustrated misanthrope who just wants to be left alone. But stories can sometimes get out of hand . . . and what begins as an ending will turn into an adventure all its own. Production #3 - Title TBD By Megan Alrutz, Claire Derriennic, Sarah Jean Elliot, Renita James, Xinyue Zhang DATES: March 2026 SYNOPSIS: Have you ever wondered what is up in the night sky? What surrounds you in the night? How to harness the magic of light? If you see two fisher people in yellow gear, join their adventure and you’ll find out what they are fishing for! After filling their lives with stars and other bright surprises, they realize what truly lights up their lives- their friendship with each other. A nonverbal Theater for the Very Young production. Developmental Readings - TBD Resident Productions for 2025-2026 Season Exact Dates to be determined, although the program generally holds three to seven Developmental Readings a Season. Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences on Tour: Finn By Christopher Dimond and Chris Nee Lyrics by Christopher Dimond Music by Michael Kooman National Tour: January 2025 - May 2025 SYNOPSIS: This world-premiere commissioned musical chronicles the coming-of-age journey of Finn, a young shark who dreams of following in his family’s footsteps by joining the prestigious Shark Guard. Set against the stunning backdrop of the deep ocean, the musical weaves together a dazzling array of charming sea creatures and catchy tunes. As Finn negotiates the challenges of growing up and following his heart, the musical takes us on a magical journey of self-discovery, friendship, and adventure. #J-18808-Ljbffr Playbill, Inc.
