RN – PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)

 

Location: 900 23rd Street NW, Washington, DC 20037

Duration: 13 Weeks (Travel Contract)

Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

 

On-Call: Rotational Basis (approx. every 5th weekend)

Saturday night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Sunday day (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)

Sunday night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

 

Travel Radius Requirement: Must reside 100+ miles from facility

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and critically skilled PACU RN to join our Level I Trauma Center team for a 13-week assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong post-anesthesia care and/or ICU background with the ability to operate independently during night shifts. Our PACU RNs manage a variety of patient types—from med-surg to ICU/trauma—and are essential in ensuring safe, high-quality post-operative recovery.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor post-operative patients’ recovery from anesthesia, including consciousness level and vital signs.
  • Observe and report any side effects of anesthesia or surgical complications.
  • Administer prescribed medications to manage pain, nausea, and other post-op symptoms.
  • Maintain and update accurate EMR documentation, charts, and patient records.
  • Educate patients and their families on post-surgical care protocols.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the medical team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide critical decision-making and independent care during low-staff night shifts (typically 2 RNs).

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Active RN license in Washington, DC
  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved nursing program
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU experience or recent ICU experience (ED may be considered)
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex patients during night shifts
  • Must meet 100-mile radius requirement

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • CPAN certification (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse)

    Weekly Gross: $2,274.00 Per Week 
    On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week 
    Stipend(Non-Taxable): $1,554.00 Per Week
