Job Description
The Traveling Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across a wide range of commercial projects, including remodels, new construction, and service work. This role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to represent the company professionally while traveling. The Journeyman is expected to read and interpret blueprints, lead small crews when assigned, and ensure work is completed to code, on schedule, and within scope.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Installation & Service
Perform commercial electrical work including wiring, conduit bending, panel installs, lighting, device installation, and service upgrades.
Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform repairs on existing systems.
Work from prints, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Travel-Based Project Work
Travel to various job sites regionally or nationally, often staying out of town for several days or weeks at a time (Project dependent).
Represent the company on client-facing sites, maintaining professionalism and jobsite standards.
Participate in night work or off-hours schedules as required by the project scope.
Jobsite Coordination
Communicate with project managers and site supervisors to report progress, delays, or material needs.
Supervise apprentices or helpers when assigned, ensuring safe and efficient work.
Ensure all work performed meets or exceeds local, state, and national electrical codes.
Documentation & Compliance
Complete daily reports, timesheets, and job logs accurately.
Submit photos and updates as required by company systems or clients.
Maintain compliance with all OSHA, safety, and site-specific protocols.
Tools & Materials
Maintain personal tools in good working condition.
Ensure jobsite materials are accounted for and used efficiently.
Perform basic material take-offs and communicate shortages or changes to the office.
Required Qualifications:
Valid state Journeyman Electrician license (reciprocity or travel card accepted where applicable).
Commercial electrical experience.
Proficiency in reading blueprints, one-line diagrams, and wiring schematics.
Strong understanding of NEC and electrical code compliance.
Ability to work independently or as a crew leader in the field.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel and stay overnight as needed.
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in various conditions.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Experience with national retail remodels or traveling service work
Basic low-voltage or controls experience
Familiarity with iPads/tablets and job reporting software
Travel Expectations:
This is a travel-based position .
Hotels and per diem are provided by the company.
Some jobs may include night shifts, weekend work, or extended stays depending on project needs.
