Job Description

The Rural Alaska Students in One Health Research (RASOR) program is seeking a motivated individual with experience or interest in program management , education , marketing , or marine science . This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about research and education.

The RASOR program is a grant-funded educational opportunity for rural high school students in Southeast Alaska. RASOR students complete locally relevant mentored research projects in their home communities while earning college credit. Research focuses on a culturally relevant one-health approach that emphasizes the connections between human, animal and environmental health.

This position plays a key role in supporting students, both in-person and remotely for rural communities. Core responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating program activities and events
  • Communicating expectations and updates clearly and compassionately
  • Organizing and maintaining program information
  • Relaying concerns and ensuring student needs are met

To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate will possess knowledge of methods of organization, research, and analysis, along with the ability to work independently using sound judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom is essential, as is a willingness to learn and utilize new skills. The candidate should be able to comprehend written material and interpret and apply policies, rules, and regulations effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are important, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, contribute successfully as a team member, and communicate clearly and compassionately both orally and in writing. The role also requires the ability to organize and present facts and opinions, plan and coordinate events, and offer and receive constructive feedback. A successful candidate will represent the program in a warm, positive, and professional manner and demonstrate patience, understanding, and adaptability to meet the needs of students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Associate’s degree and two years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have and maintain a valid Alaska driver's license (or the ability to obtain one) and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria. Some in-state travel may be required.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Oceanography, Fisheries, Marine Biology, Education, Indigenous Studies or Marketing
  • Previous employment or residency in rural Alaska community or tribal college, tribe, school or reservation
  • Familiarity with marketing tools such as Canva, MailChimp, WhenIsGood, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Experience applying principles of design to visual informational materials
  • Interest in making a difference in issues such as increasing educational access, sovereignty of Alaska Native governments, cultural preservation, environmental conservation and sustainable resource management.

Position Details:

This position is located in Sitka, Alaska. It is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and  full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the  UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 78, based on education and experience.
